Celebrating a national milestone for PRANA and the Wessex SDE

As we begin the new year, we’re proud to be celebrating a significant national milestone for PRANA and the Wessex SDE, recognising work that is helping to shape safer roads and stronger health research across the country.

PRANA’s inclusion in the Government’s National Road Safety Strategy reflects a huge amount of partnership working by teams across Wessex SDE, PRANA, and our partners in the NHS, research and transport. Together, we’ve been building the foundations needed to responsibly link road safety and health data, ensuring it can be securely accessed for research to improve understanding, reduce harm, and deliver clear public benefit.

As the hosts of PRANA, the Wessex SDE has played a key role in enabling high-quality research while maintaining the highest standards of data security, governance and transparency. This milestone is a testament to the dedication, expertise and care shown by teams working together and with the public behind the scenes to make sure data is used safely, ethically and in the public interest.

For the local public, this is something to be proud of. Work led and hosted here in Wessex is helping to shape national policy, improve road safety, and support the NHS by strengthening the evidence base for prevention. It shows how local investment in trusted data infrastructure can have a real impact well beyond our region.

We’re proud to work alongside PRANA and all our partners as this programme continues to develop, and we look forward to the next phase of research and collaboration that this national recognition makes possible.
