Lay Description
UHS-held Trauma Audit and Research Network (TARN) dataset containing structured trauma audit records for eligible patients treated at University Hospital Southampton. The dataset captures trauma episode information including mechanism and intent of injury, incident and admission timing, trauma team involvement, transfers, procedures, length of stay, injury descriptions, GCS, ISS, probability of survival and survival status.
The Trauma Audit and Research Network (TARN) was an established national clinical audit for trauma care across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and supports 218 trauma receiving trusts (170 in England) by providing each trauma unit with case mix adjusted outcome analysis, performance of key process measures and comparisons of trauma care.
TARN data was collected until 2024 until it was replaced by the National Major Trauma Registry (NMTR).
The current dataset only covers UHS held TARN data and is managed by PRANA.
