PPP – Patterns of Paediatric Physiological Monitoring and Clinical Deterioration in UK Prehospital Care (Pre-hospital Paediatric Physiology study

Lay Description

The PRANA programme exists to support the utilisation of linked data to improve health care and prevent disease. This PPP study perfectly aligns with the PRANA Registry’s aim, in that the findings from the PPP study are expected to influence improvements in the care of critically ill and injured children within the UK and to provide support for developing strategies to recognise and prevent deterioration in these children.

The full report and findings from the research will be shared openly with Wessex SDE and University Hospital Southampton, via the PRANA team, enabling direct local action for potential improvements to patient pathways or treatments as a result.

Public Benefit Statement

The physiology of children through ambulance service care and into hospital outcome has been extremely challenging prior to the development of PRANA. There is an expectation that assessment of children’s physiology in the really early phase of their NHS journey will inform our understanding of how to spot sick children and how to recognise deterioration in clinical state.
