Huw Rees
Huw Rees leads finance and funder management for the Wessex SDE, overseeing financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and grant reporting. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, he helps ensure the NHS gets value for money from its investment. This includes ensuring funding streams, pricing and resource planning support the SDE’s long-term sustainability and the efficient delivery of research
Huw has more than 30 years of experience in Finance in the NHS (including roles working on capital projects, financial management and financial accounting) and further public sector experience supporting large-scale bids for public funding and public sector teams providing services under contract. This has given him experience in developing financial models, supporting strategic decision-making and ensuring that funding is translated into sustainable services and measurable value.
His role spans both day-to-day financial management and longer-term planning, helping the SDE balance public investment, commercial income and research activity. Working with NHS partners, funders and the wider SDE Network, he supports the development of a financially sustainable service that can continue to grow its data, technology and research capabilities.
